Year 2 Music Challenge 13.07.20

Hello Year 2

Here are your challenges for this week…

Challenge 1:

Watch the video below from The National Youth Choirs of Scotland. ‘Bim Bom’ is a simple song which we have learned in school but this time we use an easy cup pattern to play whilst we sing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg0wgzcmsqc

What you need:

Two plastic cups

Challenge 2

Story: The Remarkable Farkle Mcbride

Watch the video below … It’s a lovely little musical story about the ‘Remarkable, Farkle McBride’. It is a poem, set to music, to help you learn about the instruments of the orchestra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oM5pmq5nr1Q

Think about…

What was the first instrument that Farkle played?

What did Farkle do with his flute when he was 6?

What did he decide his favourite sound was?

Enjoy your music-making.

Stay safe.

Year 2 Music Challenges

Hello Year 2

Here are your music challenges for this week.

Challenge 1:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOXFrgB083A

‘Waltz of the flowers’ by a composer called Tchaikovsky.

You may recognise this beautiful piece of music. It is from The Nutcracker Ballet.

Listen and watch the video the first time around to understand how this fun percussion activity works. This is an activity for all the family to enjoy playing together. Each symbol/picture is represented by an instrument or sound. Have a look around your house or garden and find three different sound-makers. Can you find an instrument/sound-maker that sounds like a tambourine? Can you find an instrument/sound-maker that sounds like a drum? Can you find an instrument/sound-maker that sounds like a triangle? The idea is that you play your instrument or sound when the bees fly to your symbol. Try to keep in time with the music. Be careful… it does get faster towards the end.

Challenge 2.

Go to  https://www.outoftheark.co.uk/ootam-at-home/ and enjoy singing the song called ‘Just Sing’. The song can be found in Week Four or the section called ‘Just for fun’.

Look at the last line of each verse  e.g. Humpty Dumpty/kangaroo; mashed potato/vindaloo. There are four syllables in the first phrase (Hump-ty Dump-ty) and three in the second (kan-ga-roo). Also, the second word or phrase always ends with an ‘oo’ rhyme. Have some fun writing some new ‘last lines’ and try them out.

‘Sing… (four syllables),

Sing… (three syllables/oo rhyme),

just sing!’

Enjoy your music-making.

Stay safe.
