Year Four Blog

Monday 20th July

Happy Monday Year 4! Today marks your last official day as a member of Year 4 🙁 I am super sad this day has come around so quickly as I have loved getting to know and spend time with each of you and it’s been such a shame we didn’t get to complete the full year together. However, we have had lots of fun learning online, spending time with our families and ‘slowing’ down a bit. I hope you have a lovely, restful break – it is very well deserved! I also want to let you know how proud I am of each of you for persevering through the ups and downs this year has brought. Thank you for being a fabulous bunch of children – it’s been a pleasure! Good luck as you move up to Year 5 and I shall see you around in September. Miss Khan 🙂 🙂 🙂

Here are some tasks you can complete today:

  • If you haven’t seen Friday’s newsletter, it mentioned that children could create a name badge for when they return in September to their new class. Can’t wait to see what you create!

Music Challenge (Mon 13th – Fri 17th)

Hello Year 4

Here are your Music Challenges for this week

Challenge 1

For your first challenge this week, you will need a small ball which can bounce on the floor. This is a fun action song called Hej Hello which uses ways to say hello in different languages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2zCRAfHzUQ

Challenge 2

Learn about what happens in our bodies when we sing, and why it makes us feel good.

This lesson includes:

  • two videos about singing
  • three activities to try at home

Go to: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z8nsm39

Watch the first two videos and then choose two of the activities to complete at home.

You may remember learning about Folk-music in our lessons. ‘O waly waly’ is a folk-song. The singer in the story of ‘O Waly Waly’ misses someone they love, and is trying to imagine ways to reach them on the other side of the water.

You can learn to sing this song. Click on the images to see the words and music for the song.

Have fun and stay safe,

Music Challenge (Mon 6th – Fri 10th)

Hello Year 4,

Challenge 1:

Let’s practise our rhythm-reading skills.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIxq-1a_810

Find a sound-maker or instrument or just clap the rhythms carefully.

Challenge 2:

Here is a fabulous song to help us learn about Roman Numerals.

Go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1UmAgekzbs&feature=youtu.be

Listen to the song and join in with the chorus – I is one, II is two etc.

When you are more familiar with the song, see if you can tap out the rhythmic ostinato (repeated pattern) accompanying the words.

How many beats in a bar can you count? Is it 2, 3 or 4?

Does the song stay the same tempo all the way through?

What happens on the words ‘nice and loud’?

Where else does this happen in the song?

Can you improvise (make up) your own 4 beat ostinato pattern to accompany the song. Clap your rhythm or use a sound-maker/instrument.

EXTRA challenge: Write out your rhythm as music notation in your Home Learning Book if you can.

Have fun and stay safe, Mrs Russell
